WEST WARWICK — A local family has been displaced following a multi-family house fire at 47 East Street last week amid freezing temperatures.
West Warwick crews said the fire broke out sometime before 1:30 a.m. on Thursday.
No injuries have been reported.
The front portion of the home was significantly damaged. The cold weather froze the ladders on the firetrucks, which needed to be defrosted to continue putting out the fire, according to Captain Eric Norberg.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
Debra Roffo with the nonprofit Angel in Action RI is collecting clothing donations for the Menard family, who have two young children that were living in the home. When they are rehomed she plans to begin collecting household supplies as well.
The mother, Sabrina Menard, shared on social media that she and her family are grateful for the support.
“They did their best to tend to us and worked into all hours of the morning fighting the fire,” she said of police and fire. “We appreciate all of their hard work. We are unbelievably blessed to all be healthy, safe, and together. My husband and I just can’t thank everyone enough.”
She added, “A lot of wonderful people have made this trying time a little easier.”
